Thank you for submitting an application for Transcontinental No.6

Once again we were oversubscribed despite the unfortunate delays that have unavoidably hampered the start of 2018. Lost Dot Ltd are now the official owners of the Transcontinental Race and we feel confident the turbulence that has rocked this event since we lost Mike last year is behind us and we look forward with anticipation and excitement to TCR No.6 only a few short months away! Mike remains forever in our hearts as our inspiration and guidance.
This year we had over 400 entries from all over the globe and even though we have increased the amount of offers again, there are still a lot of people that we've had to disappoint. Since we now have so many veterans returning to ride again it has also meant that we can no longer accept all the vets of previous races as we have in the past.

However, congratulations are in order! Your application has been successful and we would like to offer you a place on Transcontinental No.6

WHAT NOW?

There's no need to do anything just yet, but be ready for the following:

We will contact you again in the first week of March 2018 to invite you to accept your place.

To do so you will need to:

1. Pay the 50% deposit of £150. You will need a credit or debit card for this (we cannot accept paypal for entries). Once paid this accepts your entry and is non-refundable.

2. Sign the Rider Agreement which will be sent with your invite. Read this carefully as it is a contract and details the terms and conditions under which your entry into the race is given as well as your rights to things like the media you can share.

3. Provide us with some more personal contact details and details of a next of kin, so it is a good idea to talk to them now and let them know what you are signing up for.

You may also want to start being extra nice to your boss and/or loved ones ;-)

You may have noticed that the the price for ultra distance events have gone up across the board this year. This is because (link)(link)the company we use to track your dots, increased their prices this year. Mike’s passing has also meant the way we run the TCR has been necessarily restructured and rather than Mike basically running everything with Anna's support we now have a team of race officials under one race director and unfortunately we can’t live on thin air. The TCR is the most closely monitored and adjudicated of all of the ultra distance bike packing events and requires a good deal of time, energy and effort from race officials and our team of volunteers.
Even with the price increase race entry is likely to be a minimal element of the overall cost of your race. We are disappointed to have had to raise the fee so substantially in one year but with the addition of the SPOT fee hike we were unable to do otherwise. We hope that you trust in our commitment to delivering Mike’s vision of a fair and honest race run by racers for racers and forgive this sudden and unexpected rise in the entry fee.


When you get the invite in March you will be given a deadline by which to accept. You will have at least 1 week to accept and make the first payment.
Riders who accept their place will then be required to confirm by paying the balance by the end of April. There will also be chance to purchase the media license at this stage if you are getting sponsorship, we will provide more detail on this at the time but please be aware the £40 fee from last year was a trail fee.

If you told us on your application that you had a SPOT tracker, then you will need to provide the details for this by the April deadline and the £50 discount will be applied to that payment.


NOTE: We need to be strict with all the payment deadlines so that we know who is in and who is out. There will be reminders but the number of places we offer exceeds the number of actual places available on TCRNo6. There are a number of dropouts and no-shows every year and the better we can manage these the more places we can make available in the race in the future. You can help us if you don't want to accept your place or if you want to withdraw at any stage by letting us know via email to race@transcontinental.cc. Please make sure our race@transcontinental.cc email address is saved to your email contacts or check your junk mail box and please do not unsubscribe from our mailing list as this makes it very difficult for us to contact you.


The way we allocate places is explained briefly in the Race Manual Issue 0. We can share some detail on how we assessed the applications this year:
All female applicants who entered as solo or all female pairs were accepted.
All applicants who made a significant contribution as a volunteer on TCRNo5 were accepted.
We took into account applicants who’d applied before and had been unsuccessful, these applicants had their own ballot and around 50 were awarded a place.
Veterans were allocated their own ballot and 50 were awarded a place.
The above accounted for around half of our available places on TCRNo6, everyone else was given an equal chance of getting a place in the general ballot.

This is about the fairest way we think we can do it. We now have more places offered than we expect to have to accommodate but, based on previous withdrawal rates, this should get us to the right number for July. We do not operate waiting lists and do not expect, at this time, that there will be any more places to offer in the coming months.
