Hello,
I'll be moving to Uskadar this Tuesday from Chicago, Illinois. I'm a really active cyclist and have competed in road races and crit races for the last few years. I'd be interested in any group rides and races. I know that the forum is in Turkish, but I do not know enough yet to feel comfortable writing it.

I've no idea about cycling in Chicago but you need to be so careful in istanbul traffic. I've seen more cycling people at Uskudar every morning weekday.
A group cycling from Caddebostan to Kartal (or Pendik) every friday evening from seaside. You can find in facebook as ''Sahil Bisiklet Ekibi''

if your mobile phone has android or ios system you may use the map (link) (including bike repair shops, bike roads and etc)
 
you must have 8 eyes like spiders traffic :) also spider senses

this group of riders are best way to get used to with city traffic for you. they also have more foreingners as far as i know, it is easier for you to hang out with them compared to others.

You can find them on facebook as "atilla bisikler takimi" if i remember true rhey are rising for performance all weekends

I agree with that.

Unfortunately, there aren't many races. Cycling Association of Turkey does organize a few road races, but you need a Turkish racing license to participate in them and getting one as a foreigner requires going through a lot of red tape. There is also a crit style race run in the former F1 circuit, which does not require a license:

Depending on your training level, groups riding on the seaside might be too slow for you. For beginning, i would recommend you to ride with VeloSlow group. You can find them on facebook and check the meeting times and places. Don't mind the name. They are the most elite group you can find (might not be the fastest though). For sure more than half of them are fluent in English, which is almost impossible to find in Turkey unfortunately, you can get better information about other traning groups. And then after you learn the training routes, depending on your level, you can decide where and with whom to ride. Most of the groups there are mostly doing some "barbecue" rides and they will be too amateur for you, even if you are racing Cat4/5.
 
Thanks for all the info so far. It's been a pretty nice time for the last two weeks getting adjusted and taking care of work and housing commitments. I've been able to get some rides in early in the morning. Through my wife's work I have a contact with the bike fed, so I should have some help going through the red tape.
